The age-old story of prince-turned-slave Judah Ben-Hur is getting an action-packed re-telling complete with some very real – and very thrilling – stunts.
“Ben-Hur” takes on the fabled tale of a falsely-accused Jewish nobleman who survives years of slavery to take on the Roman best friend who betrayed him. Based on the 1880 novel by Lew Wallace, “Ben-Hur” is the ultimate tale of revenge and forgiveness.

Chariot races and Ben-Hur go hand-in-hand so it’s only natural that director Timur Bekmambetov would strive to create the most pulse-pounding race scenes. Starring Jack Huston as Ben-Hur, a new featurette takes viewers behind-the-scenes of the epic chariot race in the upcoming epic.
Filmmaker Bekmambetov eschewed the use of CGI effects in favour of practical stunts, including those heart-stopping chariot race scenes complete with teams of horses, placing actors Huston and Toby Kebbell in the heart of the action.
“It’s scary. There are no airbags, no breaks,” the director says, likening the chariot races of the past to modern-day NASCAR racing.
“Ben-Hur” opens in theatres on August 12.
